Who is personal coaching for?
If you are just starting out or have a specific goal in mind. If you want to make the best use of the time you have. If you are not making as much progress as you think you should despite working hard, or you have set yourself a goal that will require a minor miracle, then you are in the right place.
Not only swimming and triathlon
Online coaching is also where we work with athletes outside the pool and the triathlon course: HYROX and Driathlon competitors, indoor and ocean rowers, runners, and anyone preparing for an endurance challenge that has no obvious rule book. The method is the same whatever the sport: understand the demand, build the plan around the person, and explain the reasoning behind every session.
Currently, Robin is working with:
- A paratriathlete aiming for selection and a podium at the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics.
- Masters swimmers competing at national and international level.
- Age-group triathletes aiming for international selection and podium finishes.
- A female pair attempting a world record for rowing across the Atlantic.
- A HYROX world champion preparing for a mountain endurance test.
- Local runners chasing personal best times in marathons, half marathons, 10k’s and 5k’s.
Why Robin's personal coaching is different
Elite experience as an athlete
Robin competed internationally as a swimmer for eight years and as a professional triathlete for another eight, and has coached for Great Britain at international level for more than 20 years.
That first-hand experience at the highest level informs how he coaches the mental, physical and tactical demands athletes face, and, more to the point, how to meet them.
Academic and professional credentials
Robin holds:
- MSc in Coaching from Loughborough University.
- Level 3 Swimming Coach qualification.
- Level 3 Triathlon Coach qualification.
The combination of lived experience and academic rigour means the coaching is both practical and evidence-informed.
Still competing
Beyond forty years of racing and coaching in swimming and triathlon, Robin has kept competing in other disciplines:
- European and British indoor rowing age-group titles.
- Five age-group British records on the SkiErg.
- Endurance rowing and HYROX events.
- The virtual North Pole to South Pole cycle.
He understands what it takes to set an ambitious goal and reach it, because he is still doing it himself.
How personal coaching works
Goal setting and planning
Robin works with you to establish clear, meaningful goals and builds a structured pathway to them. It is not generic programming; the plan is built around your current ability, the time you actually have, your other commitments and your competitive ambitions.
Session-by-session training
Every session is purposeful and process-focused. Training is set at a level that is right for you as an individual and progresses logically as your fitness and confidence develop. There is no wasted effort, only targeted work designed to move you forward, and the reason for each session is explained.
Technical and emotional support
Progress is rarely a straight line. Robin provides the technical framework and also the support needed to get through setbacks, keep motivated and recognise progress when it comes. You are never on your own in the process.
The TrainingPeaks platform
All personal coaching is delivered through TrainingPeaks, providing:
- Daily structured sessions uploaded in advance.
- Real-time communication and feedback.
- Performance tracking and progress monitoring.
- Accessible training plans across all devices.
Personal coaching fees
Personal coaching starts at £175 per month. The fee depends on how much contact and analysis you need: how often the plan is reviewed, how much video and data you send, and whether the goal is a single event or a full season. Every arrangement includes your TrainingPeaks plan, session-by-session feedback and a regular review call.
In-person sessions in Lanzarote can be added at any time at the drop-in session rate.
Four decades of coaching
The coaching process is complex, and it cannot be learned from a few courses or a few years of experience. Robin’s knowledge spans four decades at the highest level of both international swimming and international triathlon, professional and age-group, and throughout that time he has worked to create opportunities for athletes that have changed the course of their lives.
Principles that guide everything
Robin’s coaching is founded on four principles:
- Integrity: honest, transparent guidance at all times.
- Empathy: understanding your challenges and recognising your victories.
- Trust: a relationship in which you feel supported and believed in.
- Loyalty: commitment to your journey, not only to your results.
The joy of helping others achieve
Robin’s personal coaching is not about ego or accolades. It is about partnership, progress and the satisfaction of watching athletes reach what they are capable of. Whether you are chasing a medal or simply want to be better than you are now, Robin’s aim is to make the journey rewarding and sustainable.
